Room:
53
Class fee: $130/semester
Course Description:
Grades 9-12
(younger students with instructor permission)
This is a great class for any secondary student, whether they
are “artistic” or not! We will journey through time to learn
about ourselves and our culture - and have a lot of fun in the
process! Not only will we have the opportunity to observe visual
art and music from times past but we will take the time to get
messy and use some of what we learn from the past to express
ourselves in the present.
Class will be held once a week for two hours. The first portion
of each class will consist of a slide lecture and discussion.
The second portion will consist of hands-on studio projects
related to the period and art concepts being studied.
A visit to the Seattle Art Museum each semester will be
organized. Visits will most likely occur on Fridays. Museum fee
and transportation are the responsibility of the student.
The course is divided into 2 sections:
Semester One: Ancient Art - Prehistoric through Renaissance Art
Semester Two: Modern Art – Baroque through 21st Century Art
Course objective:
Introduce students to:
- Major
periods of art history.
- Major
artists and their works.
- Art terms

- Art as a
record of human history and culture.
- Conceptual
shifts and technological advances affecting art.
- Art
history careers and connections to science, law, business
and education.

each period (if available).

Homework:
Students will
be given a log-in to access homework activities and photos of
their work. Students are required to print homework activities
and photos of their work to include in their portfolios.
It is important that homework is
done every week and turned in at the beginning of class.
Evaluation:
Students will keep a portfolio of
their work.
Completion of assignments will be tracked and available online
at www.chipadoodle.com . Mid-term and final exams will be
administered online, during class time.
As a Workshop Instructor, contractual agreements prohibit me
from providing a grade for your student. However, assessments
and feedback may be requested at any time and can be forwarded
to your SLP advisor. Students may request credits through the
